ABPPC Ltd provides services to the healthcare sector focussing on pharmaceutical pricing, reimbursement and market access.
The company, based in Drayton, Oxfordshire, was established in 2002 by Adam Barak, former head of pricing and reimbursement (P&R) at GlaxoWellcome Europe and head of global P&R at Oxford GlycoSciences.
Since ABPPC’s beginnings, the company and organisation have grown considerably into a global network of specialists able to provide the same core services. The international network developed by Adam is PharmaPrice International Ltd, and has offices in 22 countries across the world including the USA and Japan. All members of the PharmaPrice International (PPi) network are from their respective country, and are each expert with a thorough knowledge of the pharmaceutical sector and systems and processes in their own respective markets.
ABPPC and PPi’s core service is to support the development of market access strategies as well as their ultimate implementation. This is accomplished through an intimate understanding of pricing and reimbursement, country healthcare systems and familiarity with payers, physicians, pharmacists and other key stakeholders.
Our services range from supporting early product development (e.g. initial price assessments, due diligence and helping to prepare companies for marketing their products in countries where they currently have no presence), through to product launch activities (e.g. securing funding, submitting pricing applications, developing an international launch strategy), right through to post-launch activities such as managing patent expiry and responding to competitor activities.
ABPPC has grown very quickly since its early beginnings. The company has completed over 160 separate projects for companies all over the world. ABPPC’s clients include the very largest pharmaceutical companies, such as Pfizer and Novartis, as well as many smaller pharma and biotech companies too. Although most of the company’s work has been undertaken in Europe for European clients, other markets which ABPPC has provided support for include the USA, Canada, Australia, China, Korea, Japan and India. Recent projects have included work in Turkey, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic.
ABPPC's Medical Director has over 20 years clinical experience in the UK and provides the company with expertise on the UK NHS, as well as in neurological and other areas.
Examples of recent company successes are facilitating the launch in Europe of a Japanese company’s novel epilepsy medicine, helping a non-UK company find a partner in the UK to market its CNS (central nervous system) products and supporting the market access strategy for a USA company developing novel oncology drugs for the European market.
In 2007 ABPPC joined with the Aegisnet organisation which specialises in providing health economics and outcomes research. ABPPC brings to the organisation specific skills and experience pertaining to healthcare pricing and funding and with the Aegisnet and PPi colleagues in the UK and international markets, the collaboration is able to offer its clients a complete market access service.
